Arguably Atlantic City’s most unique
casino property, the Showboat Casino Hotel brings alive the colors and
spirit of New Orleans. Located at Delaware Avenue and the Boardwalk, the
Showboat contains a total of 755 rooms, including 69 oceanfront suites in
the main 25-story tower and a 17-story Orleans Tower. Showboat also offers
a total of 3,500 indoor and outdoor parking spots and is home to an array
of fine clothing, jewelry and gift shops on the hotels first and second
floors.
Showboat
features 97,000 square feet of gaming space, including about 100 table
games and more than 3,700 slot machines. Visitors can also frequent the
Carousel room, a high-end slot parlor featuring more than 15,000 square
feet of slot machines. A horse racing simulcasting center is also
available.
The resort’s 346-seat Mardi Gras Showroom
accommodates a variety of entertainment and special events. The New
Orleans Square Bandstand hosts free jazz band entertainment, and piano
players entertain guests with classic to contemporary songs in the hotel
lobby.
The Showboat has a total of nine
restaurants and snack bars that prepare and serve everything from gourmet
meals to fast food options. Moreover there are two lounges available as
well as four meeting rooms, including the Mississippi Pavilion, which
totals 20,250 square feet and seats more than 1,600 people.
Just
prior to the new millennium, the resort underwent a massive, multi
million-dollar renovation program, including all public areas, guest rooms
and suites, recreating the ambiance of turn-of-the-century New Orleans. A
15-foot tall, multi-color swan greets visitors at the front entrance and
is fairly stunning as it is made of fiberglass and steel and consists of
hundreds of colored lights that flicker at night.
The entire Showboat exterior is without a
doubt an Atlantic City landmark. A series of festive murals depicting
street scenes of the French Quarter provide a unique façade on what was
once a white, unadorned parking garage wall. It took $4 million, eight New
York artists, 100 local craftsmen and five months of exacting and detailed
work to complete the facelift. The murals are enhanced by balconies and
wrought iron railings, re-enforcing the Bourbon Street feel. Highlighting
the street scenes are foliage, lights and 25 mannequins in Mardi Gras
attire occupying the balconies.
