Harrah’s
Atlantic City was the first casino to open in the Marina District, away
from the often-crowded Boardwalk, and was just the second Atlantic City
casino hotel to be built from the ground up. The resort features three
16-story hotel towers and a multi-level complex housing the casino,
restaurants, theater, meeting rooms, and recreational facilities.
Since Harrah’s is located away from
Atlantic City’s Boardwalk, the resort’s planners assembled a
20,000square-foot wood planking on the bay side of the complex. This
recreation, The Baywalk, overlooks Harrah’s 65-slip Harbor and
provides guests a panoramic view of the Absecon Waterway.
The marine theme is carried throughout the
casino floor beginning with custom carpeting in a tidal pool motif. The
atmosphere is relaxing as blue cold cathode lighting simulates the color
and movement of the ocean and outlines the perimeter of the 82,966 square
foot casino.
Incidentally, Harrah’s was rated #1
during Casino Players Magazine’s "Best of Gaming" reader’s
poll for 1999. They also were awarded Best Overall Hotel and Casino, Best
Slot Club, Best Dealers, Best Comps, Bests Hosts, Easiest Check-in/out,
Best Rooms/Suites, and Best Table Tournaments, among others.
The casino floor itself has a fine mixture
of 2,721 slot machines and 82 table games (figures as of June 30,1999).
Fortunately, 99 percent of Harrah’s slot machines have seating;
denominations vary from 25 cents to $100. Guests who frequent the
high-limit slot area – Treasure Cove – receive the royal treatment
with "Super Tush," slot chairs that adjust up or down and have
vibrating seat backs. The Treasure Cove features machines ranging from $5
up to $100. The Players Deck is the place for video poker fans, featuring
25-cent video poker games.
Harrah’s was the first Atlantic City
casino to offer players a Table Games Guarantee. The casino won’t
raise a player’s minimum bet when limits have been raised for new
players at the table. For Poker enthusiasts, the casino features an
intimate eight-table Poker Room across from the Broadway By the Bay
Theater. Other table games include, 1 Baccarat table, 1 Casino War, 41
Blackjack, 5 Caribbean Stud Poker, 9 Craps, 1 Mini-Baccarat, 5 Let it
Ride, 2 Pai Gow Poker, 8 Poker, and 9 Roulette tables. Non-smoking tables
are also available from noon to 4pm daily in Pit 6.
Harrah’s offers 1,174 guest rooms in
three hotel towers, making it one of the largest hotels in the state of
New Jersey. The resort’s new Marina hotel Tower connects to the current
complex via any floor, allowing guests to travel to the new rooms from the
Atrium Tower, which consists only of suites, as well as from the Harbour
Tower. In addition, telephones in the Marina Tower are equipped to connect
to personal computers. Each of the 416 rooms features a seating area and a
seaside décor.
The
restaurant options here range from casual to elegant. One can choose from
such prestigious establishments as The Steakhouse, voted "Best
Steakhouse" by Casino Player’s magazine for three years in a row or
less formal restaurant such as the Fantasea Reef Buffet. This $7 million
marine-themed, entertainment oriented buffet restaurant is fit to
accommodate 400 guests. Moreover it features hundreds of live tropical
fish in immense aquariums with more than 12,000 gallons of salt water.
There are nine food stations here extending more than 150-feet long.
Harrah’s also provides a 7,500
square-foot fitness center and an indoor swimming pool that is open year
round, seven days a week. Seasonal recreation includes deck tennis,
shuffleboard, and an 18-hole miniature golf course.
Parking is available in Harrah’s 2,400
car parking garage, which is connected to the casino by a glass-covered
walkway. Valet parking is available at both the hotel and casino
entrances.
