Atlantic City's most noted trademark is its
boardwalk. There may be others
in the world, but by far Atlantic City's is recognized as the benchmark for others
to be judged by. Dating back to the early 20th century, the boardwalk has housed such great places
as Steel Pier, Garden Pier and Million Dollar Pier. The Atlantic City Boardwalk has been
host to some of the biggest names in show business. The Beatles played on
Steel Pier and so did The Rolling Stones. Of Course, no one can forget the diving horse show.
Today the Boardwalk is filled with a variety
of shopping options and many eateries. Still, there are many things for the young and old
to enjoy. In recent years, many chain themed restaurants have opened including the
Hard Rock Cafe (Taj Mahal), The All Star Cafe (Taj Mahal), and Planet
Hollywood (Caesars).
Also, those who seek the abnormal can find it at Ripley's Believe or Not Museum
on the Boardwalk.
For real mall shopping one can go to the boat
Shaped Ocean One Mall, located directly across from Caesars. Also, one of the
country's biggest Warner Brothers stores is located on the Boardwalk attached to the Trump
Plaza. So as you can see there are still many things to do on the Atlantic City Boardwalk,
but one can wonder what it must have been like 40 years ago..
The Miss America Parade still
takes place on the boardwalk every year the week before the pageant. What a great place to
be in early September!
